Laminar-turbulent transition in pipes with body forces: continuous, discontinuous or both?

Invited talk at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics workshop Physics and Mathematics of Turbulence in Different Media (September 14–18, 2026), part of the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics program of the same name. The talk covered how body forces change the laminar–turbulent transition in pipe flow, and the tricritical directed percolation framework that explains when the transition is continuous, discontinuous, or both.
